Soar On Wings Like Eagles

Welcome to this week’s Van Life Devotions. Often in our travels a common sight in the sky are eagles. Whether we are driving pass a recent harvested sugarcane field or the open plains of the outback, we see Wedge-tailed Eagles soaring in the sky slowly circling looking for their prey - a mouse, rat, or snake to dive upon.

In the Old Testament Book Isaiah it says, “The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint” (Isaiah 40:28-31 NIV).

Isaiah was writing to Jews who were in exile, many of whom were experiencing lack of hope and energy. God through Isaiah said that those who placed their hope and trust in God will not lose heart rather they will gain new strength and courage and will soar on wings like eagles.

We would all like to mount up with wings like eagles, but as someone has said, “It’s hard to soar with the eagles when you are surrounded by turkeys.” Birds like the Australian Brush Turkey can fly, but they rarely do because they are most comfortable on the ground. Birds like rosellas, budgies and other small birds fly, but they mostly use their wings to get from one tree to another. But eagles, they soar! They have great power and freedom. They are destined for the skies.

Like them, you have a different Spirit in you than those who are content to be ground dwellers. You have a higher calling. You are destined for the skies. God’s Spirit is in you, and He calls you to soar with Him. Some of us though may not be using our wings. We may still be more comfortable on the ground than soaring in the sky, but God is calling us to soar. What areas in your life that you desire to be soaring? Put your trust and hope in God.

When you do putt your hope in the Lord, may you experience what Abraham did. We are told that Abraham who against hope had hope that God would come true on His promise. Romans 4:20 says, “He plunged into the promise and came up strong, ready for God” (Romans 4:20 MSG). That’s soaring on wings like eagles.

Enjoy your day as you put your trust and hope in the Lord Almighty, and may you feel the wind of God’s Spirit beneath your wings.

Let’s Pray: Father in heaven, some of us are tired. Please breathe into us Your Spirit. Renew our strength and enable us to soar. O God, preserve us who travel; surround us with your loving care; protect us from every danger; and bring us in safety to our journey’s end; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
